Update on Terrace Tower Residents

By Veronica Maciag

In early July, Terrace Tower residents were displaced from their homes after an electrical fire broke out at the apartment complex. Since then, over 100 residents were forced to find split-second accommodation, and even now—two weeks later—are struggling with housing.

The American Red Cross supplied aid to these Clevelanders. Providing both physical and mental services with food, shelter, and health services, the organization has been working tirelessly to lessen the damage caused by this fire.

As of this week, residents who were previously housed at the Salvation Army East Cleveland Corps Community Center were transferred to the Sherman House dormitory on Case Western Reserve University (CWRU)’s North campus.

It is still uncertain as to when residents will be able to return to the Terrace Tower apartments, even just to retrieve what is left of their belongings. The property managers have also refused to speak to local news sources and prior residents alike for more information. Seemingly, it will be at least 30 more days until these members can return, with CWRU being willing hosts until the school year begins.
