John Adams Rebels Class of 1972 Awards $30,000 to 2022 Senior Essay Contest Participants

In celebration of its upcoming 50-year class reunion, the John Adams High School Class of 1972 Reunion Committee awarded $30,000.00 in scholarship dollars to four graduates from the 2022 Senior Class of the John Adams College & Career Academy.

The scholarships were presented during Senior Recognition Day, which is the high school’s traditional honors and recognition ceremony for graduating seniors.

In cooperation with the school’s administration, the Class of 1972 introduced the Rebels4Life Senior Essay Contest this past February.   This opportunity, which is funded by private donations from 1972 Alumni, was specifically for Class of 2022 seniors who were planning to attend a 4-year college this year.

The winning 1st place contestant was awarded full funding toward their first-year college tuition, instructional fees, and related supplies. The 2nd and 3rd place contestants will receive funding for books and related supplies needed in the first year.

“We wanted to jointly celebrate our 50-year Reunion and support graduates preparing for their first year of college in 2022,” said Jeanette Campbell-Green, Reunion Committee President. “Our original vision for this program was to make a definitive impact on ‘one student’ by funding the first year of their college future. We were able to do that and also were fortunate enough to be able to provide support to other participants.”

Senior QeShawn James was selected as the 1st Place Winner and will be attending Morehouse College in Atlanta.  The other Winners were Seniors Zarriah Sweeney (Cleveland State), Adia Harper (University of Cincinnati), and Linell Mills Jr. (Youngstown State).

In addition to the Essay Contest, the Class of 1972 sponsored the inaugural Rebels4Life Walk-A-Thon on June 5th as a fundraiser for the scholarship fund.  Held at the John Adams-Cleveland Browns Stadium, it provided a fun and healthy way for Alumni across generations to return to the school in support of the 2022 graduating class.
