Beyond Flawz from Two Best Friends

As a part of our mission, The Cleveland Observer seeks to uplift and support minority-owned businesses in or near Cleveland, OH. 

Beyond Flawz Beauty Lounge, a beauty bar located in the Buckeye Neighborhood at 9718 Buckeye Rd, Cleveland, OH 44104, was established in 2019 during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Beyond Flawz has since remained a thriving business and community resource. Founded by childhood best friends Bri and Nicole, Beyond Flawz has been a place of comfort and rejuvenation for members of the community. Beyond Flawz offers a plethora of services to its clientele which include but is not limited to:

Nails:

• Gel-X
• Foot Detox
• Pedicure

Hair:

• Natural Hair
• Units Braids
• Cuts
• Coloring
• Shampooing
• Detox
• Silk Press

Beauty: 

• Facials
• Eyebrows
• Lashes
• Massages

The interview served not only to highlight this business but also to gain understanding from the owners about what it’s like owning a beauty lounge and what are best practices for success.

When asked about what made them take the risk and start a business, they replied that it was always their childhood dream to own a beauty bar and they had natural-born talent. Beyond Flawz has since opened up shop and has been able to create an open atmosphere welcoming to all. Furthermore, they used their own funds to invest and start the business, not depending on a single loan to open. They both said this was a scary period for them because of the risk they were taking.  But despite this, they stuck through with their goal.

When asked about what their greatest challenge has been since opening Beyond Flawz, they stated there have been two main challenges. The first was the pandemic, and not being able to serve their clients due to lockdowns and responsible safety measures. The second was—and continues to be—keeping beauticians in the booths to service clients. When asked about how they have addressed these challenges, they stated that clients have continued to support them even through rough times and that they are finding innovative ways for beauticians to stay at Beyond Flawz.

Bri and Nicole were born and raised in Cleveland, and also carry the mission of giving back to their community and supporting residents. Since opening, they have provided and/or assisted with back-to-school events for school supplies and hairstyles, Juneteenth events, Taco Tuesdays, Customer appreciation days, and Reggae events.

As they continue to run their business, they are seeking more ways to give back and connect to the community around them. In closing, we asked Bri and Nicole what’s next for Beyond Flawz, to which they replied, “To keep serving clients and find new ways to expand our services and reach out to the community.”
